Past Issues: Bargain Wine, apr/may 2007 --
Cellar No. 8

In this regular feature, we spotlight those wines that offer great bang for the buck -- under $15 bucks, to be exact. Here you'll find our everyday wines, house pours, and occasionally a great new find. Have a favorite Bargain Wine? Tell us about it at editor@wineskinny.com

Each issue, we taste lots of wines in our search for bang for the buck - appealing flavor and structure for fifteen bucks or less.

It's not always easy.

But as we were contemplating wines for this issue, we realized that one winery has been popping up in this column on a regular basis - Cellar No. 8. More often than not, we have found these wines to be easy-drinking, everyday-enjoyable wines. We're not saying that they're the most complex, high falutin' wines out there. But at just $10 each, they're always worth a try! Here are three we've enjoyed lately:

Cellar No. 8 2004 Merlot California ($10). Moderate red cherry and plum flavors are accented with generous vanilla, coffee and warm spices. Nothing complex, but easy to pair with casual meals. Ready to drink now.

Cellar No. 8 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon California ($10). Easy to like, with ripe red cherry and plum fruit accented with sweet vanilla, black pepper, toasty oak and a touch of chocolate. Ready to drink now.

Cellar No. 8 2004 Zinfandel California ($10). Jammy black cherry, blackberry nutmeg and clove linger through the juicy finish. Ready to drink now.

This now-fabulously-named column used to be called Easy To Find One Figure Wines, for reasons that we cannot currently remember but were surely enthusiastic about at the time. Anyhoo, check out our Past Issue Index for more great value-priced wine selections!
