Past Issues: Easy to Find One Figure Wines,
feb/mar 2000
Olé! To say I am nuts about
this Spanish red table wine, would be an
understatement. Torres' Sangre de Toro is
so very, very happening. From the tiny plastic
bull that hangs around the
neck of each bottle (you can't see it in
the photo, but trust me it's there), to
the pittance of a price, this wine practically
brings tears of joy to my eyes.
The wine's label lauds itself
as "an eminently drinkable, casual
wine." I wholeheartedly agree. Este
vino es muy delicioso! This oak-aged, medium-bodied
Meditarranean wine made from Garnacha and
Cariñena is subtly replete with cherry,
blackberry, pepper and spice, and everything
nice.
Sangre de Toro is perfecto
with pizza, burgers, barbeque, Mexican food,
and just about anything else you want to
throw on the table. I've enjoyed a bottle
of this wine with Spanish tapas on more
than one occasion. Uh-oh. I'm getting all
misty-eyed again.
So, what exactly is the pittance
of a price? Well, I pay $5.49 (that's right
$5.49, kids) at my local market (Central
Market in Austin, Texas). The importers
of Sangre de Toro assured me that the wine
is available nationwide, and Wine Skinny
readers should have no problem finding this
wine. I hope so, cause it's that good.
