Wine Review Archive: Australia: Sparkling

Clover Hill 2001 Sparkling Tasmania ($30). Aromatic toasted brioche, almond and tropical flavors stay concentrated through the spicy finish. A nice match to a shellfish and mango starter. Ready to drink now. (Weekend Wine 03/07)

Greg Norman Estates NV Sparkling Chardonnay-Pinot Noir South Eastern Australia ($16). Delicate straw color and nutty, citrus aromas lead to light citrus and peach fruit flavors. Smooth finish loses its sparkle sooner than expected. Ready to drink now. (Richard's Picks, 12/03)

Taltarni NV Brut Victoria Vintage Selection Taché ($20). Appealing for its balance of sleek red berry fruit, cream and toasted hazelnut flavors and aromas. Finishes crisp and clean. Ready to drink now. (Weekend Wine 03/07)

Two Hands 2007 Moscato Barossa Valley Brilliant Disguise ($19). Not unlike a Moscato d'Asti, this delicately sweet and fizzy wine is lovely with light fruit desserts, cookies and cakes, or something like dried apricots and creamy/tangy fresh goat cheese. With medium-bodied pineapple, peach and melon flavors laced with honeysuckle and finishing fresh. Ready to drink now. Locate this wine online or in your area. (Weekend Wine 03/08)

Wolf Blass NV Brut Australia ($11). Heck of a deal on a well-structured bubbly. Appealing acidic backbone supports fresh, light citrus fruit, with touches of creamy vanilla and juicy apple. Ready to drink now. (Bargain Wine, 02/04)
