Wine Review Archive - Australia, Other Reds

St. Hallett 1999 Gamekeeper's Reserve Barossa ($11). A blend of Grenache and Mourvedre, this is juicy, medium bodied, and ready-to-slurp wine. Bright red cherry and rich plum, just a touch of spicy oak, and smooth tannins. Great with all kinds of food. (Robyn's Picks, 11/00)

Tait 2002 The Ball Buster Barossa Valley ($15). Deep and concentrated, with juicy blackberry and plum fruit layered with tobacco and earth and spices. Plenty of structure, too, particularly at this price point. Ready to drink now. (Weekend Wine 03/05)

Yalumba 2000 Grenache Barossa Bush Vine ($15). Juicy red berry is the star in this Australian red, with clove and smoke and vanilla oak. Deliciously easy to drink. Ready to drink now. Wonderful with grilled lamb chops with rosemary, grilled squash and onions, and crunchy baguettes with herbed butter. (Weekend Wine, 10/02)
