Wine Review Archives:
France: Languedoc-Roussillon: Dessert

Château de Jau

2005 Muscat de Rivesaltes ($26, 500 ml). Fresh and vibrant, with aromatic apricot, peach and honey flavors that pick up cream and a light spiciness through the long finish. Ready to drink now. (Weekend Wine 04/08)

2002 Grand Roussillon ($26, 500 ml). An interesting VDN made from Grenache Blanc, this offers mouthwatering orange and apricot marmalade aromas and flavors, along with creamy caramel, fig, baking spices and a hint of mineral that fold into a bright, lingering finish. Delicious now and over the next four or five years. (Weekend Wine 04/08)

Les Clos de Paulilles 2005 Banyuls Rimage ($26, 500 ml). Quite like a young Vintage Port in style, deeply colored and offering rich, concentrated blackberry and red plum flavors laced with silky chocolate and vibrant spices that linger on the long finish. Ready to drink now but should age beautifully for at least ten years. (Weekend Wine 04/08)

Val d'Orbieu NV Muscat de St.-Jean-de-Minervois Petit Grains ($11, 375 ml). A pretty, aromatic, fortified dessert wine from France's Languedoc area, featuring waves of candied orange zest, apricot preserves and wildflower honey that linger on the ripe finish. A great deal, too! Ready to drink now. (Weekend Wine 06/06)
