Wine Review Archive - Germany Pfalz

Bassermann-Jordan

2000 Riesling Kabinett Pfalz Deidesheimer Paradiesgarten ($16). Spicy peach and pineapple aromas and flavors, fleshy mouthfeel, dry mineral note emerges on lingering finish. Ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. (Robyn's Picks, 04/04)

2000 Riesling QbA Pfalz ($14). Really liked this wine! A great example of balance - with racy citrus fruit vs. honeyed peach. Lovely honeysuckle and spice accents; good length on finish. Ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. (Weekend Wine, 05/04)

1998 Riesling Beerenauslese Pfalz Ruppertsberger Reiterpfad ($91). Rich, smooth, honeyed apricot is the star here. Unexpected notes of apple and pear lend a bright quality that is delightful. Spice on the finish lingers beautifully. Excellent now and should cellar for at least five or six more years. (Wine Tasting Party, 06/00)

1998 Riesling Kabinett Pfalz Deidesheimer Paradiesgarten ($15). Dry but rich, this Kabinett has a fuzzy navel thing happening – all peaches and spice. The nice acidic, clean finish keeps it balanced. Ready now, but will hold for a few years. (Wine Tasting Party, 06/00)

Blue Fish

2005 Riesling Pfalz ($10). Juicy apple and apricot flavors mingle with a touch of light spice on the refreshing finish. We love this German Riesling with spicy Thai curries. Ready to drink now. (Robyn's Picks 06/06)

2004 Riesling Pfalz ($10). All juicy apple and lemon zest, this Riesling offers the bright, crisp side of Riesling at an everyday price. Ready to drink now. (Bargain Wine 06/05)

Dr. Burklin-Wolf

2001 Riesling QbA Pfalz Burklin Estate ($16). Relatively straightforward, but too delicious to ignore. Loads of nectarine and spice, with light touches of flint and honey. Ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. (Robyn's Picks, 04/04)

1998 Riesling Spätlese Trocken Pfalz Ruppertsberger Gaisbohl ($36). Another blockbuster Spätlese – this one is notable for its lively peach and spicy palate, as well as the silky finish. Very good now, but should really show its true colors in about five years. (Wine Tasting Party, 06/00)

Loosen

2005 Pinot Gris Pfalz Villa Wolf ($11). Lovely, with aromatic, fresh white peach, floral and spice notes that linger brightly on the clean finish. Ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. (Bargain Wine 10/06)

2005 Riesling QbA Pfalz Dr. L ($11). Easy to fall for, with its pretty floral and crisp nectarine character and long, juicy finish. A heck of a deal. Ready to drink now. (Bargain Wine 08/06)
